What is Low Dose Naltrexone:

  • safe with zero abuse potential
  • non-controlled
  • helps reset dysfunctional immune system
  • very low dose medicine
  • fewer side effects than other treatments

History:

  • Dr Ian Zagan and Dr. Patricia McLachlan pioneered the use of low dose naltrexone.
  • in the 80s Dr. Bernard Bihari (Harvard Neurologist) was using it to treat HIV.  As HIV positive drug users were coming off their full strength naltrexone, he noticed the positive effect against HIV when the patient was weaned (with only a fraction of a dose remaining in their body).
  • First public human trial in 2007 by Dr. Jill Smith for Chrohn’s disease
  • Naltrexone was first approved by the FDA in 1984 to combat opioid addiction.
